Welcome

This CD-ROM has been designed to support educators and professors for teaching DSP using the Texas Instruments C5000.  The platforms supported are the C5416 DSK and the C5510 DSK.

The CD-ROM has been tested with Internet Explorer IE 5.0 and above.  Some problems have been experienced with Netscape, even versions 6.0 or 7.0. We, therefore, encourage you to use IE with the CD-ROM.

If it is not your default browser, you can exit from the Autorun Splash Window and run the CD-ROM directly from IE with X:\CD\index.html where X is the disk letter of your CD-ROM.  The display is optimized for 800 x 600 resolution.

The activities can be accessed in two ways; either from the graphic window, where the main one (tutorial) is symbolized by the camera or from the more classical menu on the left.

The menu on the left allows you to reach several important documents, like the glossary. In this case, for clarity, the activity cannot be reached from the graphic window.

The Tutorial part has been organized in 23 chapters. Most chapters start with an explanation of the algorithm and then branch into implementation on C5416 or C5510.

The DSP Source File Menu accesses the main software examples used in the Tutorial and Self-study sections.  These are divided into 3 parts, corresponding to the directories for the C5416 DSK, C5510 DSK and the Self-study tutorials for the C5416 DSK. The C5416  DSK and C5510 DSK directories are sub-divided into chapters.

The Self-study tutorials are a set of examples for the C5416 DSK.  Some of them are also incorporated into the main section.

An example of the use of  “IMLIB”, the TI Image Library, is provided in Chapter 18, which is about image compression.

An example of the use of “DSPLIB”, the TI Signal Processing Library, is provided in Chapter 19, which is about the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).

When copying the contents of these directories from the CD-ROM to a local drive, the user should change the file properties to NOT read-only so that the new files generated can overwrite the old ones.

Questions and discussion points about the materials on this CD-ROM should be addressed to the authors Geneviève Baudoin, Férial Virolleau and Olivier Venard or to Richard Sikora for this Self-study tutorial.
